INTERNATIONAL WATERFRONT COMBINATION
Sir, —The threat of disaster to New Zealand appears in the action of the International Longshoremen’s Union and its tour recommendations to members, as outlined in “The Press” of Saturday. Some weeks ago evidence appeared that the support and cooperation of the New Zealand Watersiders’ Union may be pledged to this powerful union. This may lead to a complete “tie-up” of all our shipping. There are thousands of hard-working and hard-thinking waterside unionists. Now is the time for them to save their industry and incidentally their country. Let them move into action against dangerous leadership ere it is too late. —Yours, etc., RETIRED TRADE UNIONIST. July 26, 1947.
