ELECTRICITY SHORTAGE
Sir,—The M.E.D. does not generate power, so my criticism of the power generating authorities did not attack, or call for reply by Mr Hitchcock. However, if he identifies himself with those “experts” I criticised, he has chosen art unconvincing and undignified style of defence. Satire and ridicule, for it was not humour, ill befit a public servant replying to professionally supported technical argument. My fault is only that I discussed a matter of public welfare and did not accept the technicians’ promise that only they have the intelligence to understand it. The public, Mr Hitchcock’s masters, to whom his fairy tale was addressed, will know how to judge between us.—Yours, etc., MATT GRANT. July 26, 1947.
