N.Z. BOY SCOUT CONTINGENT
EARLY RETURN LIKELY ACCOMMODATION ON SHIPS OFFERED •P.A.) HASTINGS, July 27. The possible early return of the New Zealand Boy Scout contingent attending the world jamboree in France because of a suggested hitch in the New Zealand Government’s immigration scheme from the United Kingdom is mentioned in several letters receivea this week by parents of scouts. It appears that representations have been made by the Government to the headquarters of the jamboree contirtgent that some or all of the boys should return by a vessel leaving England on September 1. This vessel was intended to transport selected immigrants under the immigration scheme, but it would seem that this date is considered too early for English immigrants. and the accommodation available is now being offered to the scouts.
It was planned that parties of boys should leave England by three different ships at various times from the middle of September to early in December. Although no official information has been received, it appears that jamboree headquarters are opposed to the proposed change in the programme.
There is disappointment among scouts themselves judging from their letters, especially as they were looking forward to the Royal wedding celebrations which are suggested as likely to take place in October.
