VISIT TO NAPIER AND HASTINGS
CHEERING CROWDS LINE STREETS (P.A.) NAPIER. July 27. “A nice morning here, eh” With that observation, as he stepped from the aeroplane promptly at 9.55 a.m.. Field-Marshal Lord Montgomery Struck a note of easy informality which persisted throughout his three hours and a half in Napier and Hastings yesterday. When he returned to Napier late in the morning, after visiting Hastings. Field-Marshal Montgomery was greeted by thousands of persons gathered on Marine Parade.
There was loud cheering at his later appearances when driving through decorated and crowd-thronged streets on his way to a combined Returned Services’ Association and civic luncheon, and when he drove to the aerodrome to take off for Gisborne.
