TENANTS OF RAILWAY HOUSES
* REASONABLE TIME TO LEAVE GIVEN ON RETIREMENT
(From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, July 23. A period reasonable in the circumstances of eaph case was allowed former employees of the Railways Department before they were required to leave departmental homes of which they were tenants while employed, in the service, said the Minister of Railways (Mr R- Semple) in the House of Representatives to-day. in reply io a Question from Mr J. K. McAlpine (Opposition, Selwyn). It was a rule in the department of long standing that the occupancy of a railway house was given only during service. However, in spitp of the difficulty in filling vacancies after railway employees retired because the retiring servants could not find alternative accommodation, a reasonable time was being allowed for this purpose.
