RECORD LEVEL OF EXPORTS
AUSTRALIAN OVERSEA TRADE FIGURES (Rec. 12.5 a.m.) CANBERRA. July 3. Australia’s exports for 1946-47 will be the greatest in the history of the Commonwealth. The total is expected to be about £250,000.000 sterling, or nearly £100,000,000 more than the prewar level.
For the 11 months ended on May 31 exports totalled £224.000.000 sterling, compared with £138,000,000 for a similar period of last year. In the same period imports rose to £167.000.000 from £144.000,000 in the corresponding 11 months of last year. Britain is still Australia’s best customer and her principal supplier, with America in second place.
