DECLINE OF CHRISTIANITY

Sir, —In agreement with “Anglican,” I have felt dismayed at the pagan way in which many people celebrate Easter in this Christian land. We do not fear for the Church of Jesus Christ, but no Christian is happy to see decent and well-meaning people simply ignore all that the Easter message declares to those who will believe—Jesus Christ paying the terrible price for the sins of all in His own body on the Cross. “There is therefore no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit.” Jesus said, “Wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because strait is the gate and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”—Yours, etc., PRESBYTERIAN. April 15, 1947.

Sir, —Against the weight of evidence given by historical research, geological survey, anthropological studies and those of astronomy, biology, etc., and the chemical and electrical studies, tests and successes, and tne findings of psychical research, anthropomorphic concepts of God and His universe, as repeated by “Anglican” and as represented by orthodox churches, must suffer their 'decline. The law of life is “march or die.” This applies equally to the mental and spiritual side of man and his institutions as to the physical man and the natural world. Religion, to be acceptable in modern days, must be based on implications arising from modern knowledge, and, as such, be acceptable to that rationality which preserves and advances all humanity, priest as well as person.—Yours, etc., A J.S.M. April 15, 1947.
