U.S. NOTE ON HUNGARY
REPLY BY SOVIET COMMANDER BUDAPEST, March 19. Replying through Brigadier-General Weems, head of the American military mission in Hungary, to the latest United States Note on Hungary .General Svidirov, the .Russian commander, said: “Solely to prevent you from making any further mistake” that Bela Kovacs (a member of Parliament who was arrested by the Russians) has “fully acknowledged his crimes against the Soviet army and his participation in the plot against the republic?’ General Svidirov again rejected the American suggestion of an investigation into Hungarian political affairs, in which, according to the American Note, the Russians had interferred to assist the cause of the local Communists.
