GOOD TRIAL BY SONERI “ The Press ” Special Service WELLINGTON, January 23. Soneri, which is bearing m bright appearance, revelled in a gallop over seven furlongs in company with Bruce and Thornbridge at Trenthaip to-day. Although the, time was not outstanding, the trial showed that Soneri has done plenty of work and is in excellent order to contest the Trentham Stakes of one mile and three furlongs on Saturday, when her clash with Golden Souvenir and Beau le Havre promises to be the highlight of the meeting. The best time over a sprint distance was registered by King Tissa. Conditions were ideal, and the outside of the course proper and the plough provided fast going. / Soneri (W. J. Broughton), Bruce (L. J. Ellis), and Thornbridge (C. T. Wilson), jumped off from the seven furlong post, and with Soneri making the pace, they ran to the half-mile post in 40 4-ssec. Under a good hold, Soneri maintained a slight advantage to the post, running the last half-mile in 51 3-ssec, making Imin 32 2-ssec for the full journey. Broiefield struck out with his usual freedom when accompanied by Mynet over seven furlongs on the plough in Imfn 34sec, the last half-mile in 53 l-ssec. Broiefield should run well in the Summer Handicap. Indian Gold was accompanied by Desert Fox over seven furlongs in lmin 35 4-5 sec. They finished on terms after running the last half-mile in 54 3-ssec. Both horses were under a good hold throughout the trial.

With the worse of the weights. King Tissa finished full of running at the end of half a mile, to shade Faultina in 48sec, the last three furlongs in 36sec, which was the best time of the morning over half-a-mile.

Among the other trials, Marilyn shaded Sea Flower over half a mile in 49sec, the last three furlongs in 36 l-ssec. Playtos worked impressively, beating Lady Burford by two lengths, with Fleetwood several lengths away at the end of five furlongs. The last half-mile was run in *?sec. Da Vinci was going easily alongside Carnforth throughout half-a-mile on the plough in 50 3-ssec, the last three furlongs in 38sec.
