PROVISIONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS

APPOINTMENT PROBABLE NEXT WEEK

Provisional directors of the company which will be lesponsible for the exhibition proposed to be held in Christchurch in the summer of 1949-50 will probably be appointed next week. A sub-committee yesterday drew up a tentative list and. after receiving the final consent of the men named, will report it to the full committee next week for approval.. The exhibition is planned to commemorate the centenary of the founding of Canterbury. The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr E. H. Andrews) said the provisional directors would have an important task in the general planning of the exhibition and the preparation of building plans and the appointment of key officers. They would also have to ascertain what support could be expected from the Government. After they had prepared the broad outline of the exhibition they would be able to draw up a prospectus and raise the necessary share capital. When this had been done the permanent* directors of the company could be appointed, and the work of the provisional directors would be finished. <

The committee which will appoint the provisional directors was set up at a public meeting called by the Mayor. It delegated the nomination of provisional directors to the subcommittee.

The committee has made some preliminary inquiries and has had advice from Mr H. E. Avery, who was secretary of the Wellington Exhibition Company. It is possible that some of the temporary buildings used for the Wellington exhibition can be used in Christchurch. . It is intended that temporary buildings should be erected in North Hagley Park.
