MILK ZONING IN CHRISTCHURCH
OBJECTION BY SOME VENDORS
INQUIRY MAY BE HELD BY MILK COUNCIL
The objection of certain Christchurch milk vendors to the new zoning scheme of the Christchurch Metropolitan Milk Board will come before the Central Milk Council at its meeting at Wellington to-morrow. The council will have to decide whether the circumstances warrant or permit the setting up of a committee of the council to make an inquiry into the appeal of these vendors.
If the Central Milk Council-considers that it should appoint a committee of inquiry, it is likely that the committee would sit in Christchurch and hear evidence. This is the first case of the kind to come before the council.
Section 104 of the Milk Act provides that, in any case where there is a dispute or difference between a milk authority (such as the Christchurch Metropolitan Milk Board and any supply association or association of milk producers or of milk vendors, either party to the dispute may refer it to the council. A committee of the council may then be appointed to conduct an inquiry and determine the matter. The council may appoint one or more of its members, either with or without some other person or persons, to be a committee to conduct the inquiry.
