INTERPROVINCIAL MATCH AUCKLAND SCORES WELL AGAINST WELLINGTON (P.A.) > WELLINGTON, January 22. A fine recovery after seven wickets had fallen for 126 runs, with the captain (H. Thompson) playing a leading role, saw Auckland gain a first innings lead over Wellington in the second day’s play of the interprovincial women’s cricket match for the Hally burton-Johnston Shield toWhen play was resumed Wellington added only one run to its overnight score of 198 for nine wickets. Three players dominated the Auckland innings—V. Robinson, who batted very solidly for 40 runs; H. Thompson, who played a grand captain’s innings for 81; and E. Simmonds, who assisted Thompson in a splendid eighth wicket partnership which added 68 runs and took the score to within five runs of Wellington’s total Thompson yv as dropped when 30, but she gave no other chances and showed sound judgment in her scoring shots.
