HAWKE cbP MATCH MANAWATU IN GOOD POSITION (P.A.) PALMERSTON N„ Jan. 22. Taranaki’s chances of taking the Hawke Cup from Manawatu faded quickly tb-day when they were dismissed for 147 runs in reply to Manawatu’s 228, in the third challenge match of the season. At stumps, Manawatu in the second innings were three down for 167 runs, giving them a lead of 246 runs with seven wickets in hand. To-morrow is the last day of play. VETERANS BEAT ARMY A team from the Veterans’ Cricket Club beat an Army side by 24 runs at Hagley oval yesterday. The scores were:—Veterans 84 (Randall 24 not out, Goodwin 21, Hills 15). Millard took two wickets for 4 runs for- the Army team. Army 60 (M. Smith 32 retired. Millard 18 not out). Bowling for the Veterans Hassall took three for 24 and Goodwin two for 23.
