BASIC WAGE CASE IN AUSTRALIA

BOYCOTT .OF HEARING SUGGESTED (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE. January 20. The Australasian Council of Trade Unions has asked Federal industrial unions not to comply with the Arbitration Court invitation to be represented at the hearing of the union’s basic wage applications if the hearing is combined with the 40-hour case. Notification that applications would be heard on February 24 was given by the Court to the council on Saturday. The Court move was not unexpected .by union officials, who believed that the Court had agreed that the decision on the 40-hour week question would be announced before the hearing of the basic wage claim began. Whether the unions will eventually take part in the hearing if the Court persists in combining the cases will be decided at a conference of federal unions in Melbourne on February 5
