DACOIT GANGS AND COMMUNISTS
« CRITICAL SITUATION ” IN ONE DISTRICT
(Rec. 8 p.m.) RANGOON, January 14. U Ba Pe, senior member of the Burma Executive Council, said that a state of rebellion was spreading in the Yamethin district. “Dacoit gangs with Communist support are fighting a regular war against the police, the military, and the Anti-Fascist People’s Freedom League,” he said. “The fighting has paralysed the administrative machinery, and according to the latest reports the situation is critical. The rebels rule large parts of- the district, taxing the people and maintaining police and law courts. “The Government proposes to send reinforcements to suppress the Communist gangs, who are terrorising peace-loving people and revolting against the legally constituted Government.”
