MARKETS FIRM BUT QUIET

Markets were firm but quiet on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday, and the recorded turnover was restricted to a few stocks. Buyers of Bank of Australasia raised their bids to £l3 2s 6d. National Bank of Australasia were firmer with buyers of the fully-paid at £l5 12s 6d, and of the £5 paid at £8 2s 6d. Buyers of National Bank of New Zealand raised their bids to 70s, with sellers at 71s. Union Bank of Australia had dealings at £l2 ss, and there were further buyers at that figure. . Dalgety and Co. rose to business at £lO 7s 6d, and more were wanted at that price. N.Z. Farmers’ Co-op. (first pref.) had improved demand at £6 10s. British Tobacco had business at 575, and late offers of 57s 9d met with no response. Dunlop (New Zealand) had dealings in the ordinary at 7s and 7s' Id, and in the preference tat 7s. Woolworths, Limited, were easier with dealings at 29s 3d, and further unsupported sellers at that figure. Mount Lyells changed hands at 22s 6d, and there were further buyers at that price.
