U.S. GRAIN FOR BRITAIN

January Shipments Reduced MINISTER TO FLY TO WASHINGTON

tN.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 1.30 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 17. The Minister of Food (Mr John Strachey) is expected to fly to Washington to protest against the heavy cut in the United States grain shipments for January which, the political correspondent of the “Daily Mail” says, brings a renewed threat to Britain’s bread ration. Reuter’s says that Mr Strachey will leave for America to-night. It has been confirmed that the grain allocation made in America is 68,000 tons of wheat, 8500 tons of maize, and 7500 tons of oats against the total of 150,000 tons asked for by the Ministry of Food. The Ministry says, however, that the flour allocation nas yet to be made and this may greatly alter the situation.
