ZIONIST COUNCIL’S DISCUSSION

QUESTION OF JEWISH DELEGATION

(Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 19. The Zionist Inner Council met in Jerusalem to-day and considered sending delegates from the Jewish Agency to the London conference on Palestine, but adjourned without reaching a decision. Before the meeting a spokesman said there might be differences of opinion within the movement, but not on the major points, which were that Jews must be free to select their own representatives for. the conference, and that they would join in the talks provided the plan for federation, for all practical purposes, was dropped. The British Government has already been'told that it is impossible for one Jewish Agency executive member to sit at the conference while a fellow member. Mishe Shertok, is held in the Latrun detention camp. A member of the executive of the Jewish Agency is flying from London to Jerusalem to give the Inner Zionist Council, at its request, the latest information on the Palestine conference in London. The council wants the information so that it can decide when it . meets on-Sunday whether it will be represented at the conference. The Zionist newspaper “Haboker” said that the possibilities of Jewish participation in the conference were now very real. The Stern Gang has issued posters denouncing Dr. Chaim Weizmann, saying that he is not speaking for the people of Palestine. The Jerusalem correspondent of Reuter’s reports that five armed men, believed to be members of the Irgun Zvai Leumi, raided the offices of the Exporters’ Association of Palestine, in Tel Aviv, and escaped with £6OOO worth of diamonds. At a meeting of Jewish organisations in New York to-day a new world federation of young men’s Hebrew associations and Jewish community centres was created to develop Jewish aims and communities throughout the world.
