AGREEMENT WITH ARGENTINA
“BRITISH INTERESTS PARALLEL”
(Rec. 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 19. The British Prime Minister (Mr Attlee), in a message to the. President of Argentina (General Peron), said that the successful negotiations demonstrate that the long-term interests of Britain and Argentina are parallel and not conflicting. “I am confident that Britain and Argentina can continue their long cooperation to equal advantage,” said Mr Attlee. “The peoples of our two countries are looking to the future, not to the past. The agreement has marked a new starting point in the long history of British-Argentina economic relations.” Mr Attlee expressed the warmest thanks for General Peron’s generous Christmas gift of meat. The British Ambassador to Argentina (Sir Reginald Leeper) called on General Peron to present Mr Attlee’s congratulations ana thanks for the five shiploads of meat General Peron had promised to send to Britain as a Christmas gift. Britain has agreed to sell Argentina five refrigerated ships.
