GERMAN RATION SCALE
BRITISH AND U.S. ZONES DECISION ON INCREASE POSTPONED (Rec. 7 p.m.) BERLIN, Sept. 19. A Military Government spokesman said it had been hoped to-day to announce increases in the rations in the British and American zones beginning in October, but the final decision was being withheld until the full effect of the United States maritime strike was known. The spokesman said better organisation would be applied to food and fuel problems in the coming winter, but the Germans in the British zone could not expect more than a monotonous and barely sufficient diet for some months. He added that the lowered resistance of the Germans after a year of privation was likely to offset the effects of the slight improvement in food supplies.
