WAR PRISONERS IN JAPAN
EVIDENCE BY MAJOR COUSENS (Rec. 11.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 20. From the time he arrived in Japan he had tried to get word to the Emperor that the shocking treatment of prisoners of war was doing Japan irreparable harm, said Major Charles Hughes Cousens during his trial for high treason. He had also tried to contact Japan’s Foreign Minister (Mr Shigemitsu) to see how far he was prepared to go in suing for peace.
