DAFFODIL DAY

KINDERGARTEN ASSOCIATION Mrs A. Keith Hadfield, who presided at the monthly meeting of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association, spoke of the heavy financial bjirden still facing, the association and expressed the earnest hope that the Daffodil Day street appeal would meet with a generous response from the public. She said that educationists agreed that the period from three to five years was the most important in a child’s life. Kindergartens, she continued, were a valuable supplement to the home in giving the child the happy, safe, and ordered environment necessary to his mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Miss R. principal of the kindergartens, reported' that since the term commenced a school medical officer, who had carried out medical examinations in the Richmond and Woolston Kindergartens, mentioned the necessity for more rest and earlier bed-times for all children. It was announced that many inquiries from students wishing to train as kindergarten directors had been received, and interviews had been arranged.
