MUSIC WEEK
ABOUT 700 ARTISTS WILL TAKE * PART
An interesting feature of the Canterbury Music Festival Week, which will open to-morrow, is thatflome 700 singers and instrumentalists will take part. All. the choral and instrumental societies have pooled their resources, including the N.B.S. orchestra; and for the first time, musical societies from Ashburton. Rangiora, Temuka, .and Methven will participate on the one night. Three nights will be given to the performance of Haydn’s oratorio “The Creation,” only one presentation of chamber music is to be given, arid one night will be devoted to an orchestral concert.
Chamber music has much appeal for Christchurch audiences, and, as Monday evening’s concert is mainly provided by three outstanding groups of players, as well as two experienced voc&l soloists, great interest on this evebing is assured.
A great musical future is now opening out in the Dominion, and Christchurch is not behind in its efforts to match any other centre in musical endeavour.
