INSIGNIS PINE FOR HOUSES
USE IN CANTERBURY SUGGESTED
(From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, September 19. The opinion that the housing programme in Canterbury could be considerably accelerated by t’ .e use of inSignis pine for framing timbers was expressed by officials of the State Forest Service in an interview recently. Considerable use was being made of this timber in other centres, where it had been approved by local body bylaws, and since Canterbury 'was fortunate in having some of the highest quality insignis pine in the country, its use there would help considerably to supplement the present .supplies of rimu.
Building regulations permitted the use of non-heart rimu for framing, ut as insignis pine possessed the requisite Qualities for such purposes it seemed to be a logical substitute; There were in Canterbury' many houes of insignis pine which had given long and excellent service. The climate was, moreover. suited to the utilisar tion of the wood. Provided it was carefully kih dried. /
