FOOD FOR BRITAIN
Sir, —If it is true that “every five seconds a human being dies of starvation,” then why so much procrastination by the Government? Why does the Government allow tinned beef dripping to be on the shelves of retail stores, instead of dispatching every tin to stricken countries. It took 17 weeks for a food parcel I posted to reach the consignee. There are too many propagandists, and too much time wasted. Why allow banquets, teas, and food spreads to be put on every time an overseas visitor comes here on business? It gives a wrong impression, because we who live outback are often short of food. Our rations are inadequate, as we cannot obtain other foodstuffs to supplement them, as can those who are able to visit restaurants. Surrendering coupons benefits only a few and is unfair to butchers.—Yours, etc., DRY BREAD-AN-SPUDS. September 19,
