FIRE BRIGADES’ ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Canterbury Provincial Fire Brigades’ Association was held in the Kaiapoi Borough Council Chambers, the following brigades being represented:—Temuka. Ashburton, Ranglora Sumner New Brighton. Addington. Railway, Kaiapoi, Pleasant Point (South Canterbury) The visitors were welcomed by the Mayor of Kaiapoi (Mr W H. A. Vickery) and the chairman of the Kaiapoi Fire Board (Mr R. C. Stewart) The president (Superintendent J. O’Neill, of Sumner) returned thanks. The annual report and balance-sheet, which were received and adopted, showed the association to be in a sound financial position. The invitation ot the Pleasant Point branch to hold the annual meeting at Pleasant Point in 1947 was accepted. It was decided to hold a demonstration this year at Ashburton if the Ashburton brigade is willing to assist. Officers elected were:—president. Foreman R. L. Stokes (Temuka): senior vice6 resident, Foreman R. F. Stokes (New righton); junior vice-president. Assistant Engineer T. M. Ayers (Kaiapoi); brigades* representatives on the executive. Fireman R. Kerr (Ashburton), Fireman Scott (New Brighton). Superintendent Bowman (Pleasant Point), and Branchman J. Merritt (Sumner); secretary. Fireman D. J. Waters (Temuka); auditors. Fireman Chapman and Foreman R. L. Stokes (Temuka); auditor, Mr Robert B Hean.
