Opposition To Plan For Palestine

Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, May 5. , “Arabs in Jerusalem and Arabs throughout the world spent the week-end in a fury of activity to marshal opposition to the Palestine report,” says the Jerusalem correspondent of the “Daily Mail.” “They launched plans to fight the BritishAmerican Commission's recommendations throughout the world. “There is even talk of an appeal for Russian protection. One Arab newspaper says that Abdul Razek, commander of the Arab rebel army in the 1936 and 1939 troubles, has arrived in Moscow.”

Moves at the included:— First, the Arab leaders have unified their six main political parties in Palestine and formed a national front. Second: They have decided to create a national political fund to fight Zionism and conduct a world propaganda drive In addition, a committee of the Arab League is drawing up a plan lor unified action by 42,000,000 members ot the league, including an armed revolt in the last emergency. The Iraq Defence Committee for Palestine and the leaders of political parties at Bagdad called a general strike for May 10. as a protest against the Palestine report. A Cairo message says that the Arab League has summoned an extraordinary session of the League Council for May 18 to consider the committees report on Palestine. The session will probably be held in Cairo. It is announced in Damascus that the Syrian Government has notified Britain and the United States of its disapproval of the Palestine report. Qualified approval of the AngloAmerican Committee’s report is contained in a statement adopted by a meeting of the Board of Deputies of British Jews. The board declared that it was impressed by the committee’s “humanitarian anxiety for the future of the desperate remfiants of European Jewry,” but it reasserted that Palestine should be made a Jewish State or Commonwealth.
