PANDEMONIUM AT MEETING

POLICE EJECT MEN AND WOMEN

(Rec. 12.10 a.m.) SYDNEY. May 6. Pandemonium broke out in the Town Hall this alternoon at a meeting convened as a protest against lhe disruption of the economic life of the community by industrial disputes. Between 15 and 20 men and women, struggling wildly and shouting, were ejected by the police. The meeting was called by the Citizens’ Rights Committee, and was attended by about 2000 people, the majority of whom were women. The disruptors numbered no more than 300. After an hour of heckling, cat calls and free fights the audience stood and cheered for several minutes as a signal of their approval of motions' put to the meeting. These protested against continued holdups in food and other essential requirements and called upon the Government to enforce the rule of law and order, and set up a Citizens’ Rights Committee with power to take all necessary action. The police observed that those ho were the centre of noisy groups throughout the hall possessed pamphlets issued by the Communist Party.
