WHEAT SENT TO EUROPE
CONTRIBUTION FROM - ARGENTINA WASHINGTON, May 5. The President-elect of Argentina (Colonel Juan Peron) has notified the United Nations that Argentina expects to ship to Europe more than 500.000 tons of wheat and corn before Mey 31. In a message to the Director-General of UNRRA (Mr F. H. La Guardia), Colonel Peron reported that 130.000 tons of wheat and 70,000 tons of corn have already been shipped for relief. A message from Sydney says, thst the aircraft-carrier Implacable left Sydney yesterday carrying 15,000 cases of gift food, a large consignment of sweets and condensed milk for British children, and seven tons of fat for distribution in England from the New South Wsles Food for Britain Fund The departure was watched by the Duke of Gloucester from the Royal barge. OVERSEAS DYE TRADE BRITISH COMPANY’S PLANS LONDON, May 5. Imperial Chemical Industries announces an immediate start upon a £9,000.000 expansion of its dyestuffs interests, providing, when completed, for the employment of an additional 2000 workers. The “Daily Telegraph” says that, while it is vitally important to Britain’s export trade, the plan shows that the company is determined to capture for Britain as much as possible of those overseas markets which Germany previously dominated. These developments are additional to the £10,000,000 industrial' project on the river Tees which the company announced in December as the first stage of its post-war development programme.
