FALANGIST PARTY IN SPAIN
Change In National Council
ACTION TAKEN BY FRANCO (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, May 2. General Franco has dissolved the Falangist National Council of. 100 members and appointed a new one consisting of 50 members, says the Madrid correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph?' The reduction of membership is Interpreted in some quarters as another step towards the gradual reduction of the strength of the Falangist Party. The Falangists, in any event, lost 50 seats in Parliament because members of the Falangist National Council are ex officio members of Parliament. The new Parliament will meet on May 14. when General Franco is expected to make an important speech. He has appointed 50 members of Parliament, whom he is entitled to name by law, but has omitted those who, last February, signed a declaration supporting the Claim to the throne of the Spanish Pretender, Prince Don Juan.
