BIG SHIPMENTS TO TRIESTE
FAMINE RELIEF NEEDED URGENTLY WASHINGTON, May 2. The Director-General of UNRRA (Mr F. H. La Guardia) said that Seven food ships at present at sea or loading at Latin American ports would be dispatched immediately to Trieste with more than 46,000 tons of food to provide famine relief for Austria, The daily food ration in Austria is cut down to 908 calories, or barely enough to sustain life. Negotiations are proceeding tor the diversion of grain from Belgium and Switzerland to Austria.
