NEW BRIGHTON BEACH
Sir, —When New Brighton amalgamated with the city our Mayor said that he intended making this seaside resort the “show-place' r of Christchurch. Since the amalgamation conditions at the beach nave become worse instead of better. I refer to the great lack of shelter. The stone wall thst used to afford shelter is now banked to the top with sand and almost level with the parking area. If a tractor were put on for a few days to remove the sand, conditions would be- much improved and make this beautiful beach an enjoyable place. —Yours, etc., MOTHER. February 25, 1946.
[The Superintendent of • Reserves (Mr M. J. Barnett) commented that when New Brigton amalgamated with the city the stone wall was completely submerged by sand, and, further, the sand had encroached to a large extent over the parking area and had to be removed at considerable cost The sand in front of the stone wall had been removed each year bv means of a bulldozer. It was hoped to have a bulldozer employed again on this work very shortly.]
