TRAMWAY SERVICES
Sir,—The chairman of the Christchurch Tramway Board complains that motorists give lifts to tramway passengers and threatens that rates may be increased by a practice which he sees no chance of rectifying. I suggest that he may rectify it by proj viding more frequfent service on most routes, and faster trips by (a) lowering tram steps, so that passengers really can ‘‘hurry on, please,” (b) by removing: “Wait until the tram stops” notices; (c) by avoiding the double halt of following trams at the one stopping place within the business area, notably opposite the Cathedral, and at the Colombo-Armagh streets crossing; (d) by educating the public to assist in these matters.—Yours, etc., MOUSIKOPHILOS. Ashburton, February 12, 1946.
