BUTTER RATION
Sir,—ln “The Press” this morning is the report of a resolution passed .at a meeting in Dunedin suggesting . further cuts in rationing. The present butter ration is only just sufficient for elderly persons. Young and middle-aged persons can make a good breakfast, with porridge, bacon and egg, alternated with sausages, lambs’ fry, etc.; butter is not at all necessary with these dishes. But elderly persons cannot eat a heavy breakfast and are quite satisfied with a cup of tea and some bread and butter. Beef dripping helps out the butter nicely, but elderly persons do not use joints of beef, and it is almost impossible to buy beef fat. I suggest that if any further cuts are made they do not apply to persons over 60 years of age and children under five years.—Yours, etc., BUTTER. May 15. 1945,
