ARCHBISHOP TEMPLE
* MR ROOSEVELT’S MESSAGE LONDON, Oct. 27. Mr Roosevelt has sent a message to the King on the death of the Archbishop of Canterbury (Dr. William Temple). “He was rightly considered to* be a good friend of the United States, and his efforts to promote Anglo-American understanding and co-operation were unceasing.” stated the President. “As an ardent advocate of international co-operation based on Christian principles, he exercised a profound influence throughout the world. “The American people join me in extending sympathy.” His Majesty has replied expressing appreciation of the message. • A message of sympathy in the death of the Archbishop of Canterbury has been received from the Russian Orthodox Church. A requiem mass is to be held in Moscdw.
