OWNERSHIP OF LAKE WAIKAREMOANA
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 21. The Native Appellate Court has delivered a unanimous judgment involving the ownership of the bed of Lake Waikaremoana. The case dates, back to 1916, when it was partly heard by Judge R. N. Jones, in Gisborne. When he was made chief judge the case was adjudicated on by Judge Gilfedder, who found for the Maoris in June, 1918. Appeals against that judgment hung fire. The case at length came before the Native Appellate Court, sitting in Wellington- last March, and the Court assembled again in Wellington this week, when'-it gave judgment in favour of Maori ownership of the area. The only appeal which could be made against this judgmentgwould be one to the Privy Council jg- : i
