FIRE SERVICES
reorganisation plans (P.A.) WELLINGTON, September 21. In a message- to the New Zealand Fire Boards’ Association, the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) referred to proposals made by the Government for the standardisation of the training and equipment of brigades, and arrangements for cooperation at large fires. These were not a definite scheme of reorganisation, but a statement of the principles on which it was considered a scheme should -be framed. The fii e board system was overripe for review, said the Minister. It was natural that ■objections would be raised to the elimination of existing boards, whose members took a pride in their work; but the question on which the Government wanted advice was whether it was necessary to have an independent local authority to improve existing conditions.
