DIRECTION OF MEN FROM PACIFIC
PRESENT METHOD CONSIDERED TOO INFLEXIBLE The serious position developing from the failure of Government departments to reinstate former employees placed on leave without pay and not discharged from service, was deplored at a meeting of the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce held at Timaru last evening, and the following recommendation was made by the rehabilitation committee: “That the present method of directing men returned from the Pacific was considered too inflexible and was leading to anomalies, and that some other method be substituted.” This resolution will be the subject of a remit from the South Canterbury Chamber to the annual conference ol the Associated Chambers of Commerce to be held soon at Palmerston North.
