WIDE WORLD AIR SERVICE

♦ AMERICAN COMPANY’S PLANS EVERY CONTINENT TO BE LINKED (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 20. For the first time disclosing its elaborate plans for linking every continent by air after the war, Pan-Ameri-can Airways has announced that it has filed an application for two new transoceanic routes as well as the extension of pre-war routes. One new route intended is to link New York and Moscow, via Labrador, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. The other route planned is from Seattle to Canton. China, via Alaska, the Kuriles, Tokyo, and Shanghai. The latter route would connect with another line from China to Calcutta. The company has applied for the extension of its pre-war London-Lisbon service to Paris, Geneva, and Berlin, and the extension of its pre-war African line to Cape Town. Permission is also sought to add a new fork to its South Pacific route to New Zealand. This fork would branch off from Noumea and continue to Sydney, thus providing the first direct connexion between Australia and the west coast of North America. The company has asked for a permanent certificate for operations between Singapore and Manila, and the extension southwards to Batavia. It is planned to operate four-engined aeroplanes of an advanced type, which are expected to be twice as big as the Boeing Clippers, accommodating from 100 to 150 passengers.
