RECLAMATION OF TIN

Sir—From a paragraph appearing in the “General News” column of this morning’s issue I notice that the response to the appeal for tin iso badly needed for war purposes) through the reclamation of used tootlr-paste and shaving soap tubes has been very disappointing. This is most deplorable, for it must be admitted that the responsible authorities in Christchurch, at any rate, have done everything in their power to achieve the end desired. Look at the posters in the Square and study the beautiful pictures there, also the extremely brilliant flashes of pure wit and poetry such as “Tubes are tin; hand them in.’’ and so forth. If these fail to impress the public and bring good results, then it seems almost useless to attempt anything further, and the position must be regarded as hopeless.—Yours etc., GEORGE INGRAM. May 10. 1943.
