UNLIGHTED CYCLES
Sir,—l see by the pdper that the Traffic Department has made a raid on unlighted cycles. Certainly there are many of them, but I would like the Traffic Department to go a bit further and also make a raid on motor delivery vans that go about very early in the mornings without lights. Being a cyclist and having to leave home before 6 a.m, with my light going, I meet unlighted vans which to my mind are as big a trouble as unlighted cycles. When you ask the drivers to put their lights on you only get abuse. During last winter I wrote to the Chief Traffic Inspector about this matter, and he went as far as to send an inspector to see me and get particulars, but that was all that was done.—Yours, etc., CYCLIST. May 10, 1943. [The Chief Traffic Inspector (Mr J. Bruorton) stated yesterday that rosters were prepared and shifts arranged so that this class of breach received the same attention as unlighted bicycles at night.]
