CONTROL OF TAXIS IN AUCKLAND

APPEALS TO LICENSING AUTHORITY (P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 10. Appeals against directions by the Taxi Control Committee came before the Auckland Metropolitan Transport Licensing Authority to-day. Representing a group of appellants, Mr H, P. Richmond said that the main objection was taken to the committee’s rostering system. There were 300 licensees engaged in the taxi business, and the capital involved was £25.000. Because of the shortage of petrol and the presence of visiting servicemen abnormal conditions existed, and licensees, while wishing to assist, objected to being placed in a rigid straitjacket.
