FRIDAY (Before Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M.) REMANDED John Arthur Crawford, a cook, aged 52 years, was remanded to appear on May 13 on charges of being drunk, procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order, and with the theft of a rug valued at 10s, the property of Ernest Sollitt. BY-LAW BREACHES Samuel Reginald Buckett pleaded not guilty to a charge of having no warrant of fitness for a motor-car. It was explained that Bucljett had applied to the City Testing Station for a warrant, arid it was found that two minor adjustments were required. These were completed within five days, but in the meantime he had lent the car to a person to take another to the hospital, and it was on this trip that he was apprehended. It was Understood that a period of seven days was allowed for such adjustment. The charge was dismissed. For riding cycles at night without lights, Lionel Carson Somerville, Arnold Henry McLeod Grubb. Maxwell Douglas Hatherley, and John Bernard Wort were each fined 10s, Edward Tolhurst was convicted and discharged, and John Robert Hendon, James Hounsell Henton, and James Johnston Neale were each ordered to pay costs. For driving without due care and attention, Albert Edward Scarlet was fined £lO. For driving without sufficient lights. A boy, 18 years, appeared on two charges of riding a motor-cycle during hours of darkness without a light and on two charges of riding a motor-cycle when having no warrant of fitness. The police said the offences occurred at 12.30 a.m. and 2.5 a.m. respectively, the second offence after defendant had been warned. The boy said he was riding his motorcycle to his work, which began at 2.30 am He was fined £1 on each charge and allowed a month In which to pay. A boy. aged 11 years, was admonished and discharged for setting fire to a quantity of straw, and another youth was admonished and discharged for stealing a bicycle valued at £5. He was warned bv the Magistrate that another appearance before the Court would bring severe punishment.
