OBITUARY
MR JOHN A. GORDON The death has occurred in Dunedin of Mr John A. Gordon, who was for many years prominently connected with musical activities in Christchurch. Born in Auckland in 1865, he was associated with the musical life of the country from an early age, and was conductor and bandmaster in turn of the Canterbury Engineers Band, the Christchurch Garrison Band, the Waihi Brass Band, the Hauraki Battalion Band, the Taranaki Garrison Band, and the Cromwell Municipal Band. He was also a member of the orchestra of the Theatre Royal, Christchurch, and of the Christchurch Orchestral Society. For 20 years Mr Gordon was manager of the Cromwell branch of Lanes, Ltd. (Dunedin). He is survived by his widow and two sons.
