UNITED NATIONS’ FAIR
MORE THAN £15,000 RAISED A total of more than £15,000 has so far been collected in the interests of the various queens contesting in the United Nations Fair, and their order now is Miss New Zealand first. Miss Greece, Miss England, Miss Free France, Miss Russia, and Miss North America. The takings for yesterday were £3BO, and last evening the sum raised by Friday’s mock court had reached the gratifying total of £2830, with more late “fines” yet to come in. Four dances have been arranged for this evening—an executive ball for Miss England, at the Winter Garden, a dance for Miss Free France at Stanmore road, and another at Papanui, and a dance for Miss Russia at the Caledonian Hall.
At the fair itself, an entertainment will be given by Miss Peggy Holmes and party in the evening, followed by a tug-of-war contest at 9.15. Tjie band of the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry will march from Victoria square to the Barracks at 7.30.
