One of the first products of the factories which have been established in New Zealand for reprocessing waste rubber was shown by Mr J. W. Collins, chairman of the National Council for the Reclamation of Waste Material, to members of the Southland committee for reclamation at a meeting this week. It was a rubber sole. Mr Collins said that the Government had given an order for 1.250,000 of these soles for soldiers’ boots, because rubber was considered more suitable than leather in certain climates. It was possible that in a few months’ time these soles would be used for civilian footwear. because certain classes of leather used in the manufacture of boots and shoes were in very short supply. Mr Collins added that the soles were onlyone example of the many useful things that were being made from the waste rubber generously given by the people of New Zealand^
