SEEPAGE DANGER

Sir—The farmers of Ashburton will not derive much comfort from the letter of your correspondent “Observer” about seepage. If the Public Works Department can stop seepage, why has it not done so at Scadown in South Canterbury. In Otago Central there arc watcr-raccs constructed more than 50 years ago which have been well puddled but where seepage is in many cases very bad. The concern of the Ashburton people is well founded and they should insist on remedial measures Ipcing taken as far as is humanly possible to safeguard their interests. —Yours, etc., OBSERVER No. 2. December 11, 1942.
