PUNISHMENT BY CANE
Sir, —Mr Frank Milner, I note, has warned the governors of Waitaki that the roof of the school will fall in if two big boys are deprived of the right to beat the other boys. I tremble to think that, without my having heard of it, this catastrophe may have overtaken the Christchurch Boys’ High School, where (I believe) the monitors were some years ago deprived of this right. Can you reassure me? —Yours, etc., BACKHAND STROKE. December 11, 1942.
