MEN CALLED IN LAST BALLOT
ABOUT 1600 APPEALS Appeals for approximately 1600 men out of the 3224 between the ages of 38 and 40 who were called up in the ballot of November 11 have been lodged with the Manpower Committee in Christchurch. In the previous ballot, 3355 men were called up, and a little over 1600 appeals were received. The period for lodging appeals closed on November 21. but the secretary of the Manpower Committee (Mr E. D. Thompson) said yesterday that appeals were still coming in. These could not be accepted, except in very exceptional circumstances, and even then the reason would have to be very substantial.
