MARKET GARDEN INDUSTRY
* REGISTRATION BILL READY FOR PARLIAMENT If time permits in the short sitting of Parliament next week, a bill providing for the registration of market gardeners will be introduced. The measure is in the hands of the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. J. G. Barclay) and when he was questioned last night he said he could not say definitely at this stage that the bill would be introduced. Registration authority has been sought for some time by market gardeners throughout the Dominion. Some requests have also been made that market gardening should.be declared an essential industry, and it is expected that the declaration will follow the passing of . the bill. Mr Barclay also said that the Nassella Tussock Control Bill, giving authority for the setting up of control boards with power to rate to raise revenue to control the menace in North Canterbury, was ready for presentation to the House of Representatives. Its introduction would also depend on the business before the House at its short sitting.
